2019 Hokie Dairy Day

Hokie Dairy Day - Saturday, October 26, 2019  - Are you a 4-H or FFA youth interested in learning more about dairy cattle and the industry?  We have an event for YOU!  Take what our Virginia Tech Dairy Science students learn in the classroom and apply it to FUN educational activities.   REGISTRATION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 5

Hokie Dairy Day is an educational event for 4-H and FFA youth who have an interest in learning more about dairy cattle and the industry.  The event takes what our Dairy Science students learn in the classroom and applies it to fun educational activities.  The event will be located on campus in Litton Reaves Hall and at the Virginia Tech Dairy Center at Kentland Farm.   Registration will be capped at 50 students.  Youth registration fees will be $12.00 per person and will include lunch and a t-shirt.  Complimentary registration for two adults per group includes lunch only.  Registration fees for additional adults are $6.00 per person.  Deadline for registration is October 5.

Listed below is the tentative schedule for the event including activities and workshops.

9:00 - 9:30 am: Registration
9:30 - 10:00 am: Welcome and introductions
10:00 - 10:45 am: Money Management or Taste Testing  
10:45 - 11:30 am: Lactation / Udder Dissection  
11:30 - 12:30 pm: Lunch  
12:30 - 1:00 pm: Leave for Kentland Dairy (Adult chaperones provide transportation)
1:15 - 1:45 pm: Dairy Judging 101  
1:45 - 2:15 pm: Nutrition and Animal Health  
2:15 - 2:45 pm: Fitting and Showing  
2:45 - 3:15 pm: Farm overview and wrap-up

An optional information session about college admissions plus financial aid and scholarships will be offered for parents/guardians. The session will begin at 9:45 am in the Litton Reaves Lobby.
